Schwinn 230 is a Excellent Buy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Schwinn 230 is a excellent buy. I have used mine nearly every day since it arrived. The bike has a lot of features and is very silent. It seems to be a well made product and it has performed very well thus far. The price was very competitive and it was shipped quickly and arrived in very excellent condition. Assembly was very simple.
pleased but no wires!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I really like the bike – so silent. Putting it together was fine, until we came to treading the wire to hook up the computer … NO WIRE. A call etc. – it was delivered timely … all is well!
I like my bike!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am not a person who likes to exercise, but I really delight in riding my bike. I can use one of the programs, get my book and read to distract myself. The seat is comfortable for my back and it is silent enough to watch TV if I want. I’ve had it a year and I’m so glad I bought it.
Perfect home recumbent bike
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am thrilled with my Amazon buy of the Schwinn 230. Until I searched on Amazon, I thought I would have to pay $1000 or more for a desperately needed recumbent bike. (I have a recent back injury). The earlier reviews convinced me that the Schwinn 230 would work for me. I was also lucky to get the bike on sale and with free shipping. My “handy-husband” was able to set the bike up in 1.5 hours. It arrived via UPS and in perfect condition. I bought the extra warranty; I received my email confirmation immediately and I received my paper documents within a few days. I find it simple to use the computer console and the seat is both adjustable and comfortable. For those of us with injuries, this is an ideal home recumbent bike.
Brilliant bike for the price

Very solid construction, nearly comparable to what one would find in a commercial gym model. Step-through design is particularly helpful for persons with limited mobility. Got this for my 92-year-ancient father, who walks with a cane and walker. He was able to use it immediately, with no difficulty (except for programming the computer).
A backlight on the computer show would be nice, but it works fine with appropriate ambient lighting. Somewhat limited programming, but for most persons this will not be a huge issue. Do you really need two dozen pre-programmed “rides”? If so, consider the 231 model.
Takes a bit of time to assemble — two hours, in my case — but the instructions are clear and everything down to the nuts and bolts is clearly packed and appropriately marked. A lot of thought clearly was place into the packaging.
Shipping can be a challenge, as others have noted. My first order was lost by UPS, so I had to order a second. But this was done by Amazon without any delay once I reported the arrival failure. Minor hurt to the shipping box, but everything inside was fine due to excellent packing materials.
Schwinn 230 Recumbent – Fantastic Value
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought the Schwinn 230 Recumbent a month ago from Amazon (the same time as a Schwinn 430 Elliptical)and I am VERY pleased with Amazon, with the shipping co. and with the Schwinn 230 Recumbent itself.
My experience:
1. Schwinn 230 Recumbent arrived at my house about ten days after ordering
2. Unpack and assembly took 90 minutes – do follow the instructions carefully – they are well written, but there are a couple of steps where reference is made to “screw” vs. “bolt” and that threw me off. The parts package is clearly labeled with sizes and assembly part #
3. I have now worked out on the Schwinn 230 Recumbent three times using different programs at Level 12 for 30 mins and my initial experience is: silent, nice show, clear controls on the show and got my HR to 135 range which is where I want it.
4. The build quality is just fine and the main area I see for possible failure is the touch-press control panel – if sub-par plastic membrane material is used it can lead to possible issues.
I recommend the Schwinn 230 Recumbent as a strong buy, with the caveat that you must follow the assembly steps patiently and diligently.
poor quality control – but excellent customer service from Amazon!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I received the bike this week – the packaging seemed reasonable, and my husband hauled it up to the second floor of our house so that I could assemble it. I finally got the time to do it today, but came across one minor problem when trying to screw in the water bottle holder to the bottom of the seat…I found that one of the four screw holes didn’t align well enough to really insert the screw. I figured, no huge deal – three screws will hold it in place anyway, and I don’t care much about the water bottle holder.
So I continued the assembly…until I got to the point where I was supposed to attach the seat bracket. Again, I found that the holes are incorrectly machined – they’re about a quarter of an inch too low, making it impossible to screw the bracket into place. Now this is a serious issue, since it’s not possible to attach the seat unless I can screw in the seat bracket. Of course, this bike came in about 25 different pieces, I’ve already spent about an hour on the assembly, and to take it apart again, figure out how to repackage it (there are more than a dozen pieces of fitted styrofoam), borrow a truck, haul it out to a shipper to return it – you get the picture, a total nightmare. Predictably, Nautilus technical customer service is closed today (Saturday) and it won’t be possible to reach them until Monday. I’ll post an update to this review after I have spoken with them, but for the time being, this is the poorest quality control that I’ve ever seen in a product. If I have to really go through the distress of repackaging and returning this $450 dead weight, I’m not going to be pleased.
Update, 10/23:
Well, I finished up opting not to go through Nautilus and instead contacted Amazon to return the bike. Happily, that was a fantastic experience – I did the ‘call me’ option, they got back to me immediately, contacted the shipper to arrange for pickup (I wasn’t required to transport it to the shipper myself), and the shipper picked the box up from my house on the next business day. Amazon has already contacted me to let me know that they have received the package and they’re providing a full refund. Though I wasn’t impressed with the product (though apparently I’m in the minority – I guess someone has to get the defective ones) I was thoroughly please with Amazon, and will continue to shop with them frequently! Having this quality of customer service encourages people to take a chance on the larger products, so it’s excellent business sense. Despite the misfortune with this one, I’d be willing to give it another go with a different product after this.
heavy duty!

I bought this because I fell and broke my hip and it hurts too much to walk long distances for exercise. Sitting down keeps the weight off my hip so I can get get some exercise too. It seems to be built very well and I like the extra programs to get a variety of of bicycling. I usually read while doing this and the time goes very quick. I also use weights for my arms too. The only thing I didn’t like was how much work it was to place it together. I am very hands on for putting things together but this took some time to do.

I was a small worried to order this online based on some of the reviews that were posted. Luckily, the bike was shipped and the box was fine upon arrival. My husband place it together without any major issues and it works like a charm. We have not had it that long, but I have used some of the programs and they are fantastic.
So far, so excellent!!!!
Just what I wanted!

I really like the Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike! I bought it from Amazon.com and received it promptly without anything broken. I am not mechanically minded and had not distress putting it together in one evening. The Schwinn 230 is very silent and I like the large show panel. I also like the feature to plug it in an electrical outlet instead of using batteries. The only drawback that I have noticed is that the show panel is positioned alittle high for my height and I can’t see over it when using it and watching TV. If I had it to do over, I would still buy the same one. In August Amazon.com was selling the same bike $100 cheaper than the Schwinn company was. Overall I reckon the bike is a excellent value for the average person that wants to stay in shape.
Very satisfactory exercise bicycle
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought this after our “auction special” upright exercise bike gave out. My husband is 6′ 3″ and I am 5′ 2″. I was not used to a recumbent and felt the reach was a small far for me, so my husband place blocks on the pedals. After 6 weeks of using the bike, I have went the seat back a notch, so the bike really fits both of us well. It is a excellent work-out with a nice choice of programs and levels. We place it together within a couple of hours on the afternoon that it arrived; the directions were simple to follow and we liked that the small parts (screws, knobs) were sealed on a labeled cardboard so that it was simple to use the right item each time. My husband had given up riding the upright exercise bike, due to problems with his back. He was riding a regular road recumbent; this allows him the option of either riding outside or in the basement while watching TV. The lumbar support on the seat is nice, and it’s simple to adjust the seat back and forth to adapt to our needs. We had no issues with the shipping container or delivery process.
AWESOME bike
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Researched exercise bikes extensively and settled on this one based on brilliant reviews.
After using it regularly for 4 months we can agree that this bike is awesome and we can highly recommend it. Extremely comfortable, super silent, fantastic programs. The only glitch is that our fan only worked briefly. (It’s not a very strong fan anyway, so we chose just to write it off as no huge deal.)
Very Satisfied
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Product as advertised. Delivered as expected. Excellent assembly instructions and all hardware/tools required encased in plastic on cardboard.
I have been unable to walk any significant distance because of arthritis and will soon require hip replacement surgery. My surgeon indicated that an exercise bike would be a excellent low-impact form of exercise for the cardio workout and to maintain strength in my lower body.
I’ve been using the Schwinn for several weeks and find it to be:
Silent
Smooth
Stable
Simple to know and use the control panel
Now that I have this model, I can say that it would be nice to have a backlit show. Additionally, a model that does not require an external power source would provide additional flexibility in locating/moving the unit.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the functionality and value of this buy.
Fantastic bike!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Schwinn 230 arrived in a week in excellent condition. It took my husband a couple of hours to place together. The bike is silent and fantastic to use; ideal for watching tv while riding. The programs provide a nice workout. I am very glad I bought this bike and would certainly do it again. I’ve already recommended it to a friend.
recumbent bike.

Very comfortable, silent, with a excellent range of programs. I’m only 5′ tall and it’s easily adjustable for my height.
Schwinn Recumbent
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Schwinn 230 model is priced right, suitable for those needing to exercise to stay fit and healthy. The model is excellent enough for majority of folks. It’s got enough feedback info and simple to adjust for the two users in this household. We are not eyeballing the Tour de France, just trying to keep other folks from rolling their eyeballs at the sight us! I will use the bike more when an aging treadmill goes belly-up; comfortably sitted pedaling will be a lot simpler than huffing-n-puffing on a conveyor belt. The other will use the bike to supplement swimming and weight machine.
Excellent design
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The recumbent style is more comfortable than the traditional bicycle style. I used some wooden shims under the seat to make it more silent while I watch TV, so that now it is very silent. This is a excellent machine.
No backside pain
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
As a long time bicycle rider it has been extremely discouraging for me not to be able to ride as a result of a surgical procedure. This type of recumbant stationary exercise bike is the perfect answer to that problem. Year round use and the ability to rapidly change programs to fit my exercise needs is fantastic. Not only that but I am really using my weight bench in that it sets 10 feet away and I am already in a frame of mind for a workout.

Fantastic gift to manage health
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My husband bought a Schwinn Recumbent Exercise Bike as part of a New Year’s resolution in order to increase our exercise and ability to lose weight. I thought it would be an eyesore in the dining room and something we would never use. Well, I’m glad that I was incorrect. The bike turned out to be a blessing. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight since last year through dieting and recumbent bike exercise. It is simple to use. I like knowing my heart rate and the distance I’ve biked. The bike gives you a lot of choices. For example, you can go for a “ride in the park” or manually set your parameters in terms of time and levels of achievement. It’s comfortable and even has a book holder if you like reading while you exercise. As a result of the bike, I have been taking much better care of myself.
Why spend more $?
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just got his. I don’t know why anyone would spend any more money for a recumbent. It is comfortable, extremely silent, the heart rate monitor is accurate, the resistance is much more than enough, and the programs are fantastic. Look no further.
My ONLY complaint is it beeps every 35 seconds when you are doing a program, and the resistance changes. It’s not that terrible though. I blocked it out pretty quickly.
One sturdy machine
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Got the bike about a week ago. Assembly is pretty straight forward and simple. Surprised on how sturdy and heavy duty the machine is. Pretty simple to use and set up. Very silent, only thing is I wished it was not a plug in machine. Have to place the bike by a plug, other than that the machine is fantastic.

excellent solid inexpensive exercise bike. It’s not the professional model you get in a gym but so far works well at home for what I want it for. Easily assembled if you have some mechanical ability. Excellent Buy.
